Spose - I'm Awesome

I just read this article about another rapper from Maine named Dray who has this to say about Spose: "I think it takes away from the real rap, it puts comic on that, and it's harder for people to take guys like me seriously." Why wouldn't Spose be considered real rap? Because he's self-deprecating? Because his song doesn't fulfill some fantastic stereotype to which all rappers must adhere? Is Snoop Dogg real rap? That guy's been a total clown for years now. Has he ever heard Rapper's Delight, you know, that really old rap song? There's a verse about eating bad chicken and needing some kaopectate in it!

I only heard Spose for the first time one hour ago, but I find it annoying that someone as wack as Dray Senior would have the gall to discredit someone else as fake when his best line is "I'm like Hammer in his prime." Is it "real rap" to have 5 myspace pages? Are clean versions of your songs "real"? Does being the hardest gangsta from the mean streets of Portland, Maine make you "the best rapper alive"? Hardly. You're not even the best rapper in Maine.

Spose seems tight. Have you heard Das Racist? They just may be my new favorite rap duo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzWxf7tf3Qo
